The Aston Martin DP-100 - a stunning new addition to Gran Turismo®6 (GT6™).
Developed by the Aston Martin design team, DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo is a new, virtual-only GT racer available for Gran Turismo®6 (GT6™) owners to download in July 2014, following its global launch at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The twin-turbo mid-engined racer offers up to 800bhp, endowing it with blistering performance fully in keeping with the high octane nature of the game.
Created using many of the same techniques as applied in the development of Aston Martin production sports cars, such as hand sketches and 3D modelling, followed by full realisation in the virtual world, DP-100 provides an exceptional level of detail with a fully functioning suspension system and state-of-the-art electronics.
Design Director Marek Reichman: "DP-100 has been an exciting and intensive project for the team here at Gaydon.
"Features such as the car's revolutionary 'active aerodynamics' are there not just as a way of enhancing form, but also to support the car's function in-game."
Active wheel blades open and close to aid brake cooling and decrease wheel drag. They also provide a distinctive finish to visually 'plant' DP-100 with a wide and powerful stance.
Designed in GT racer style, vented wheel arches reduce drag, increase downforce and improve handling at high speeds.
Revolutionary LED light blade technology shines brighter with piercing bolts of light enhancing DP-100's muscular rear profile.
DP-100 takes the iconic Aston Martin swan-wing design cue to new heights as a greater angle of door aperture eases access to the cockpit.
Starting with nothing but the traditional 'blank sheet of paper' the Aston Martin design team and design engineers worked for six months to create the new addition to the Vision Gran Turismo stable of race cars. Clearly pushing the boundaries of what an Aston Martin could be, DP-100 not only looks beautiful but also boasts a high degree of engineering integrity.
As with the CC100 Speedster Concept, many of the design cues visible in DP-100, such as the light blade rear lamps, could also feed through into future Aston Martin sports cars launched in the offline world.
DP-100 was unveiled to the world at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the company of Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of Gran Turismo and President of Polyphony Digital.
"Vision Gran Turismo" is a 15th anniversary celebration hosted by Gran Turismo, car manufacturers and users around the globe. The cars presented will appear in Gran Turismo 6, and as those cars will be driven by more people, the festival will get bigger.
DP-100 will also be available to drive on the iconic Festival of Speed Hillclimb.
